My Top Five NBA Prospects Of The 2026 NBA.
NBA Draft Top Five.
The Summer’s Arrival Brings Heat, and the SHIFT in Weather Forces changes in Style, Instagram Content Creation Strategies, and Hydration. The Sports Media Industrial Complex Hierarchy Shifts, The NFL Finally Moves Into The Periphery, Or As Best As The Sports World Could Them Into The Margins, And The NBA Takes Center Stage. The NBA Finals will enter at leastGame Three, maybe Game Five. By The Time I Publish This Piece Of Work, and the Knicks returning to the Finals after 27 seasons will surely generate tons of buzz, but my focus will shift to the teams that seek playoff berths in the future and the players who can elevate Them Through The Draft. The NBA Finals will highlight two forms of roster building: the Spurs And Thunder,Who Built Their Teams Primarily Through The Draft and Development (With A few Players Acquired Through trade/Signing) and The Knicks Who Assembled Their Team Nearly Exclusively Through Transactions But Either Way Most If Not All Of This Players Enter The League Through The Draft. With the NBA Focused On Eliminating “Tanking” To Protect The Integrity of the game, teams won’t Build Through The Draft In Ways The Spurs and Thunder Have In Recent Years. The “anti-tanking objective” That Kick In Next Will Force The Team To Rethink Their strategy Of Playing The Role As The worst team in basketball, As Best For Business in 2027. This season, theWashington Wizards haven’t Selected Number One Since Drafting John Wall Number One in 2010, but ‘The Wiz’(17-65)Will Select In The Top Three For Second Time In Three Years, an Occurrence That We May Not Witness Again(An NBA Team Snagging Two Number One Picks In Five years) Again With The New Anti Tanking Lottery Rules Changes. Who Will The Wizards Select To Join The Star Duo Of Forward Anthony Davis And Guard Trae Young, or more importantly, given the injury history of both players, a potential replacement for both as the Wizards’ cornerstone moving forward (although Building A Franchise On Rookies and lottery picks will get harder after2026).
AJ Dybansta, Forward, BYU—
When a basketball reporter asked Golden State Warriors All-Star Steph Curry to describe the current Spurs Star Big Man and then number Pick Front-Runner Frenchman Victor Wembanyama, Steph called Wemby a “2k Create-A-Player,” some have called it a “Cheat Code,” and yes, a 7’4 Spindly Big Man with Guard Skills Looks Unreal on a Basketball. Still, He Fit The Mold of A Fourth Grader's Imagine Basketball Simulacra More Than A Create-A-Player. BYU’s AJ Dybamtsa, the 6’10-ish, guard-skilled, current number one pick front-runner, actually represents what most Competitive Players Consider A “Create A Player”, Players Built In The Mold Of Wembayama Stripe the Competitive Valor. Dybansta Measured Out At 6 feet 8.5 inches (2.04 meters) At The NBA Combine. The Most Frequently Used Height Dynamic in 2K My Player Mode. He’s a gifted scorer, not a natural scorer. Nothing He Does On The Court Looks Forced But His Moves Don’t Look Naturally Like A Durant, Michael Beasley, Or A Carmelo Anthony, But He Can Score On All Three Levels. He’s Best Equipped As A “Driver” Or Infiltrator, Where His Sinewy Frame can Squeeze Him Into Closed Spaces and Get To The Basket Or Inside The Lane, Where AJ commits Most Of His Damage, according toSynergy Dybansta Drives Into The Lane 24.0% Of His Possession. His Explosive Dunks and High-Flying Antics Will Stand Out On His Highlight Reel From High School AAU And BYU, and He Finished The Season 31/34 On Dunk Attempts. He 56.8% on 2-point field goals, an Astronomical 68% Effective Field Goal Percentage, 46.5% On Two Pointers Away From The Basket(primarily dribble jumper two-pointers). Dybansta already displays good change-of-pace motion by using the threat of getting to Create Space For Two-Point Mid-Range Buckets. He functioned as the Offensive Engine At BYU With 32% Usage Rate Generating A positive 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio. He Should Adopt The Same Play Style as a point forward in the pros, sort of like Cooper Flagg for the Mavs. Dybansta Game Has A Few Knocks Starting On The Defensive End, Where Young Players Often Have To Adjust To The League Despite Having A 7 Foot Wingspan. Dybansta recorded just 41 Stocks(Steals And Blocks), especially Blocks, Where He Generated 0.3 Blocks Per Game. Dybansta will need to improve his effectiveness on that end of the court. Most college teams play Zone To “Protect” or prevent young players from overexposing them to Switching Principles. Dybansta closed the season with a 108.8 defensive Rating(Bad) and A 0.53 Defensive Win Share(Very Bad). Defense Can Improve, and Few Players Jump From The College Level To The College As Elite Defenders Will Have To Work On Effort Plays On Defense, and Possibly Improve Their Instincts On The Other End Of Their Skill Set. Ultimately, I Believe AJ Has The Most NBA-Translatable Size and Skills That Should Put Him At The Forefront Of Any Franchise.
Darryn Peterson, Guard, Kansas—
if Not For A Particular Flaw Or Not On Darryn Peterson,Kansas Guard Darryn Peterson would Undisputedly Hold The Number One Spot On This List. He’s The Best Player I watched in college, except... Let Me Explain Something. During The First Wave Of The “One And Done” Era NBA Draft “Pro-Comp”, Comparing Incoming Talent To Current Pro Talent Became Whimsical and Ultimately Foolish (Ben Macklemore To Ray Allen, Markelle Faultz To James Harden) The Media Wnated To Indicate The Next NBa Star and While We All Get Things Wrong The Basketball “Talking Head”, “the Experts”, Appeared To Know No Better Than A Random Guy with An “x” Account Watching Youtube Highlight Reels. the Media Caught On To The Embarrass Of Bad Comparison And Became Cautious About Lining Up College Players With Stars When Watching Darryn Peterson Perform For Kansas Announcers Shied Away From mentioning The Great Like Kobe Or Carter When Peterson Scored, Like They Would Say He Plays Like Such But Take It Back With The Next Breathe. Still, The Truth stands, whether they want to Admit It or not. Peterson has NBA All-Star-level talent and Scoring Out Of The Game. Peterson Steps Into The NBA on a dangly 6’5 Frame with a 6’10.5 wingspan and 8’7 standing. A set of arms that looks like it was left over from aMr. Fantastic special Effects Scene. Peterson Has Professional Scoring Ability Far Beyond His Age. While some prospects excel in some areas that cover the room, they need to grow in other areas. Peterson Could Takeover As A Number One Scoring For An NBA Team Today. He Can Move Well Off The Ball, get to his pull-up contested or open, even After An Exhibition Of Dribble Moves To Find His Spot, and This Proclivity For Contest Shots Created Off The Dribble Also Extends Out To The Three Point Line(38.2%). I won’t Get Into all of his averages, but usage rate(33.5%), Effective Field Goal Percentage (52.7%), and defensive Win Share.080 Stand Out, But He Struggled In The Play Making 0.37 Assist To Turnover Ratio. On defense, he’s Excellent at Getting Into the passing lane, reading plays, and Pouncing On Wayward Passes and knocking balls free from perimeter players, a skillset I Believe Will Also Translate Immediately. As Playmaker Peterson Averaged Only Two Assist All Season Partly Because Most Of The Play Calling Centered On Him Scoring The Ball Out Of Most his sets and Because Of His Primary Flaw. Whether Peterson (Actually)Struggled With Cramps and Hamstring Problems, I Can’t Confirm, But He Appeared to “Load Manage” Throughout The Season, Which Hurt His Chemistry With The Team. Reportedly, Peterson Resolved His Cramping Issues thanks To A “new round of bloodwork,” Pointing Out A Creatine Issue conveniently After The College Basketball Season As He Approaches NBA stardom. Current Magic’s Forward and Former Duke Standout Paolo Banchero,Famous for Dealing with Cramping Issues Of His Own That Failed To Persist Forward Into His Pro Career. Peterson missed 11 games and truncated several others, managing his physical ailments, not to mention his sinewy frame, which also begs the question of how long he will hold up in the pros. Peterson Compares Fairly To Former All-Star and 30 Plus Point Scorer Bradley Beal, Who Had Struggled With Injuries.
Cam Boozer, Forward, Duke—
Cam Boozer Choose An Interesting Epoch To Bring His Skillset A Once Upon A Time Brand Of Basketball Back Into The Pros,But How Many Teams Find A Slower, Below The Rim Big Man Appealing. Cam Boozer Exited His lone Season At Duke As One Of The Most Decorated In College Basketball Sweeping virtually every major national, conference, and positional award, including Winning The Naismith Player Of The Year. Boozer and Duke fell short of the national title, losing to UConn in a Debilitating Fashion in the Elite Eight. Boozer Plays An Highly Efficient, His Work In The Post Generated Most Of His Points(1.12 points per possession Per synergy/Noceilings)and Serves As The Corner Stone To His Game He’s Not anchored To The Post Like A Throwback Big Like Jahlil or A Standard Pick And Pop Big Like Wendell Carter Jr, Boozer Can Work The Perimeter On Dribble Drives, Initiate Offense and Knock Down Set Shots(40.8% of his catch-and-shoot threes). Standing A Lackluster 6'8.25" inches, Weighing 252.8 pounds, With 71.5 standing Reach, With A 35 inch Vertical boozer Makes Up For His Average Not Defeating Athleticism with Skill. Hes Quite Nimble Able To Work Defenders With Smooth Strides When Transitioning From The Perimeter Into The Lane, As Hes Sort Of A Super Size Kahwi(Offensively), not too overly fancy But Effective. Boozer compared Well To Non Plus Athletic Big Man Like Alpren Sengun, Al Horford, Even A Miniature Demarcus Cousins. His burly frame and Lack Of traditional height raise concerns about his upside defensively, and few traditional players overcome those limitations, but Boozer generated a +4.4 defensive impact per 100 possessions. The team that draftedBoozer Will Have To Tailor Their Roster To Cover Up His Defensive Limitation. I Don’t ForSee Him Producing That Level of Defensive Impact At The Next Level With His Lateral Agility Compromised. An NBA Team Will Select Boozer In The Top Third Of The NBA Draft Because The Attributes that project into the pros, his shooting and post-up scoring, won’t Falter At The Pro Level. But I’m Worried About His Lack Of Upside and long-term impact defensively, and I would select him before the sixth personally.
Caleb Williams, Forward, North Carolina—
Caleb Williams’s Season At North Carolina didn’t Close The Way He Hoped, as two successive hand injuries truncated his promising freshman season at North Carolina. Caleb Lived Up To The Hype As A Top Ten Recruit To Keep His Name In The Top Five Of The NBA Draft Discussion. Caleb’s Draft Profile Follows A Frequently Visited Refrain: A Jumbo Size Hybrid Forward Who Needs to Develop His All-Around Game and Outside Shooting, but Whose Potential and Immediate Impact asa Finisher and A Wide Range of High-End Outcomes Makes Him too Tantalizing to Avoid. Wilson averaged 19.8 points,9.4 rebounds, and Put Down 70(!)Dunks In Just 20 Games Thanks To His Skill In Pick N Roll and athleticism In Transition. Wilson Will Prove A Force In Pick And Roll Out Of The Gate With His Great Hand, Pro Level Wing Span And Quick Triggered Jumping Ability. Wilson Lacks The Shooting Range To Threatendefenses as a pick and pop threat, but if he’s Fitted With A Guard who shifts the gravity of a defense ( I Doubt He Falls To The Warriors), he’ll Prove A Force In Pick And Roll. Wilson Finished The Year Shooting 72% At The Rim On 12.4 attempts per game, 68% around the rim, 68% Around The Rim, and 44% In The Mid Range and None Rim Attempts. NBA teams Will Present Better Help Defenses than what Wilson Witnessed At North Carolina, So Developing A Floater Or A more expansive mid-range will better suit his evolution. while Wilson Operates Best Now When He’s Created For Or Cleaning Up His Not Helpless In One When Creating His Offense Particularly Out Of The Post When He Can Devour Slower Or Smaller Defender But He’ll Need To Improve On His Pull Up and Face Up Game To He’s More Of A Threat To Create In The half. I don’t think the team that drafted Wilson Can Depend On Wilson To Create buckets for himself, possession by possession. Most of his turnovers occurred when Wilson Tried Or Stressed His Limits As A Creator In half, As He Lacks A Tight Enough Handle To Shake Defenders. His turnover number doesn't suffer so much because of Caleb’s work in transition and in pick and roll. Still, developmentally, he’s Far Beneath Where Cameron Boozer Stands Today and possibly tomorrow, even with a Higher Ceiling. Defensively, Wilson Will Make an Impact Day One. I don’t Think He Could Defend Positions 1-5, but definitely 2-5,With High Hedging Capacity On Screens To Push Guards Away by Moving His Feet. Wilson has excellent shot-blocking instincts and length, with a 7 Foot Wingspan. He’s Very Active, quick, and Springy and Gets Off The Ground In A Hiccup. At This Stage In His Game, Wilson lacks Next Level Three Point Shooting Touch Just 25.9% On 1.8 attempts per 100 possessions. He shot at a rate that won't fly in the pros for what he projects as a wing player. However, Shoot 71% On 14.1 Free Throw Attempts(Per 100 Possessions), a trait that bodes well for his development as he transitions into the pros. Wilson Compares Favorably To The Thompson Twins, Ausur, and Amen, Along With Other Jumbo-Bouncy Forwards like Josh Smith.
Keaton Wagler, Guard, Illinois—
The Meteor Rise Of Illinois Guard Keaton Wagler From Relative Unknown To Top Ten Pick Hits A Plateau At Five Undef Neath The Consensus Top Four In The 2026. Wagler lacks the athletic traits of a top-three pick, but he possesses a style of pace control, poise, and shot-making that teams covet. Could Wagler Break Up The Deadlock In The Top Three By Draft? When watching Wagler, the first attributes that stand out are not his shot-making or his 6’6 dangly frame, but his lack of traceable athleticism. In His First Year Wagler Didn’t Record A Dunk, He Tested Average Athletically and Measurably and He Rarely Blows By Defender On A First Move Or Second Move A Concerning Trait For A Player Projected To Play Lead Guard. Athletic Potential Doesn’t Represent All The Qualities Of A Basketball Player, But Wagler's Profile Veers Out of The Lane Of Deficient And Into Alarming, The More You Study Him.
On the Other Hand Wagler’s Strength Stand Out Just As Prominently As Short Falls He’s Excellent At Creating Shots Off The Dribble Whether From Long Range Or In The Mid Field At His Height Wagler Doesn’t Need A Lot Of Opening To Get His shot Off Over A Defender Sometimes Just A 1-2 Crossover, A Bodied Off Step Back Or Coming Off A Screen Gets Wagler All The Space Necessary To Hit His Shot. His Set Shot And Catch Shoot Motion Looks Impressive, Leading wagler To Shoot 40% From Three Overall, 45% On Field Goals, 42% On Guarded Shots, 43% On Spot Up Threes, and, if anything, will translate to the next level: his shot-making. Wagler Also Shot 55% effective field goal percentage at the rim, thanks to creative use of stop-and-go, pump fakes, and Craft off the Glass to connect on Tougher Buckets Around the Rim. Inside the mid-range,Wagler's shot effectiveness deteriorates to 34% Effective Field Goal Percentage Outside Of The Paint, but inside the Three-Point Line. Wagler’s has a tight, compact handle. He’s Not Overly Flashy Or Artistic. He Delivers With The Spots He’s Expected To Hit In The Game. Defensively, Wagler's lack of length (6’6 Wingspan) Limits His Disruptive Capacity On The Floor. He Secured Just 34 Steals and 14 Blocks On THE season, and His Positional Defense Didn’t Hurt The Team. His inability to force extra possessions for his teams is another drawback. Wagler Reminds Me Of Former Syracuse Standout And Rookie Of The Year Michael Carter-Williams, The Former Sixers, Who Delivered One Of The Best Rookie Seasons In Modern Memory, one of only four players in NBA history to average 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in a rookie season. Both MCW and Wagler Possessed Plus Size at The Lead Guard Position, Excellent Rebounders, but Lack Verticality, and their career arcs best describe Wagler.
BONUS Profile: My Favorite Player In The Draft.
Darius Acuff, Guard, Arkansas—
"My game speaks for itself." If Keaton Wagler Rose Meteorically, then Darius Acuff Took The College World By Storm. Acuff Joined John Calipari’s Razorbacks Team As He Looks To Continue Coach Cal’s Storied History Of Sending Guards To The Pros. With AJ, Darryn, and Cam Boozer Pretty Much monopolizing the early attention of the college season, guys like Acuff had to Sit In The Margins Until Tournament Season Before Really Taking Seizing Some of the media interest. Acuff Took Off In At The Start Of The SEC tournament, Directly Into The NCAA Tournament, Registering Six Straight Games Of At Least 24 Points, Three Of 30 Or More Points. Unlike Wagler,Acuff exhibits three levels: Athletic Scoring Backed Into Zippy, Springy 6’3 Frame with a 6’7 Wingspan. Acuff led the SEC in Minutes Played Per Game(35.1), Points Per Game(23.5), and assists per game (6.4) on top of the number of all-American accolades. Acuff Possesses One. Of The Most Swaggiest Guard In The Draft, Of All The Top Prospects He Operates The Most Off Of The Bounce, He’s A Very Rhythmic Dribbler With An Elite First Step, Which Helped Separate Acuff From Defenders And From This Class Of Guards. Acuff Got To The Rim At Will Attempting 185 shots at the rim, and he’s a blur with A Rim Run On His Mind. As a reference to Acuff Rim Running, Darryn Peterson Finished The Season With 68, Mykel Brown 68, Even Forwards Like Caleb Wilson, A Forward, and Yaxel Lenderborg Settled In Around 148 and 145. AJ Dybansta Finished With 203 Attempts Around The Rim. All Players Taller Than Acuff. Acuff Could Get To The Rim At Will In College, and I Expect These Results To Translate To The Pros. He Shot 59.7% Per 100 Possessions At The Rim, and while he’s Not The Craftiest Finishers Around The Rim When Faced With Opposition He Usually Beat Rotating Bigs To The Spot. Acuff Also Excelled At Dribble Pull Ups in college as well, making him dangerous, lulling players to sleep before side-stepping or stepping back into tough long-range three-pointers, and He Nailed 91/207 three-pointers attempted at Arkansas, showcasing a generally confident stroke. Despite All Of His Dribbling, Acuff Manage To Post A 93-98th Percentile Assist To Turnover Ratio(3.0) And A 98th percentile offensive load, a stat from Draft Ballers That Measures “meaningful offensive actions”. He possesses an Instinct For Using His Gravity As A Shooter and scorer to open voids for roll-offs on pick-and-roll, and Acuff Gobbled Up Assist Thanks To Hedging Defender Fearing Him As A Shooter. Acuff’s defense has become a cause for concern among draft analysts. He Posted Very Weak Numbers in terms of steals, blocks, and Overall Defensive Impact. Acuff Looks Very Stephon Marbury-ish, Allen Iverson-Like, Trey Burke-esque, wrapped up in a Derrick Rose, Markelle Fultz build, and If Teams Get Scared Away From Keaton Wagler’s Athletic Limitation, Acuff Will Provide A Tantalizing Option To Sneak Inside The Top Five.
